MIDI VOICE SPLITTER, MIDI MONO 2 CV
-----------------------------------

[NOTE: THESE MODULES ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR USAGE IN "DRUM MACHINES", SINCE THE OPERATIONAL LOGIC IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT]

[NOTE: ED MIDI MONO 2 CV MUST ONLY BE USED TOGETHER WITH ED MIDI VOICE SPLITTER !]

[NOTE: AT PRESENT ONLY MIDI 1.0 IS SUPPORTED]

This combination of MIDI modules allows painless creation of parallel identical monophonic synth lines, whenever SynthEdit polyphony has to be avoided for any reason, and without relying on audio voice splitters, S&H and other complex or unreliable circuits, as it was required in the past.

The MIDI Voice Splitter splits a MIDI signal in several monophonic MIDI signals (voices), as many as the connected pins.

MIDI support at present is basic but fully functional; support may be expanded in future if needed.

MIDI controls: only Pedal (hold), Poly Aftertouch and All Notes Off are currently supported. Any other controllers like Channel AT, MW, Expression and PB shall be handled manually and taken from the stock Controllers module - this is not a limitation but a design choice to provide the best versatility

MIDI channels are not supported (both modules reacts to any channel). An external MIDI channel filter shall be used upstream when really required (is anybody still using midi channels by the way ?)

The number of voices used can be reduced by the apposite Max Voices pin, where a value <= 0 or larger than the number of connected voices means no limit

Every new note played engages a new voice if free, while if the target voice is still engaged, it will be 'stolen', the previously playing note turned off and the new note re-triggered one sample frame apart

A same note repeated will be assigned to a new voice if the Alloc Dups option is set; otherwise it will simply re-trigger the already playing note (like a Piano)

When just one voice is connected, or when setting Max Voices = 1, the module automatically operates in Mono mode.
In Mono mode, the last played note gets priority, and once released, the previously played note will be enabled again, if its key is still pressed

Every MIDI out shall drive a dedicated MIDI Mono 2 CV module, which converts the monophonic MIDI signal to control outputs (currently only Gate, Pitch in Octaves, Velocity, Release Velocity and Poly Aftertouch - please note that not all MIDI controllers transmit Release Velocity, some may even transmit bogus values)

Currently, MIDI Mono 2 CV module only reacts to Note ON/OFF, Poly AT and All Notes Off. All other MIDI messages are ignored

The MIDI Mono 2 CV module should NOT be used without the MIDI Voice Splitter module because it would have little purpose

When Gate is turned on, the Pitch and Velocity values of the new note are transmitted to the Pitch and Vel pins, respectively, and any value present on the Rel Vel pin is retained.
When Gate is turned off, a new Rel Vel value is transmitted on the Rel Vel pin while Pitch and Vel values are retained and NOT switched to zero, to prevent oscillators or other circuits receiving zero values, as it instead sadly happens when splitting voices coming from the stock MIDI-CV2.

Pitch, Vel and RVel audio outputs always transmit Static values while Poly AT becomes streaming when Poly AT messages are detected, and stops streaming once the corresponding note is released

In Mono mode, the Mono Retrig option forces retriggering of a new note pressed while a previous one is still pressed, or of a previously still pressed note stolen by a new note when the new note is released.
The Retrig RVel option uses the Release Velocity of the new note released for retriggering the previous note, otherwise the original velocity value of the previous note will be used
